Jargon Buster

There is a considerable amount of jargon used in local government finance. This is not a deliberate attempt to complicate the process, or to make it unintelligible to outsiders. The terminology has simply evolved as a result of the need to have tightly legaly defined terms and to reduce or eliminate ambiguity.

The Jargon Buster covers the terms most commonly encountered in respect of local government finance generally, although not the names given to specific indicators within the service block formulae.

The definitions given are not authoritative, and reference should be made to the relevant Government Regulations in each case.

Clicking on a letter above displays the jargon listed under that first letter. Once the appropraite term has been found within these please click on the entry's title to reveal the definition.
