Date: 18/07/2008 £31m for Victims of Floods Sixty-two authorities in flood hit areas will receive an extra £31m to continue rebuilding communities. The funding is in addition to the £100m allocated by the Government to date and authorities will be able to spend the extra money as they see fit.

The paper entitled 'Don't Stop Me Know: preparing for an ageing population' aims to help local public services adapt to the needs of an older and more diverse society and identifies solutions that can be implemented quickly.

Date: 16/07/2008 Insufficient Money to Cope with Migrant Costs According to a report by Communities and Local Government Committee councils have been given insufficient money by the government to meet the cost of dealing with a rising influx of migrants. The LGA has called for a £250m contingency fund to pay for the extra cost of local services.

They would like local authorities to lead consortia of schools, colleges and employers to bid for the capital funding pot by submitting innovative ideas for Diploma exemplar projects which would demonstrate and share excellence in the delivery of the new Diplomas.

Date: 11/07/2008 Green Taxes 'will not Bring Substantial Funds' The introduction of green taxes such as bin charges and flight levies will not bring substantial extra funds to the Exchequer, the Institute of Fiscal Studies has warned. Although there will be environmental benefits from the taxes, the actual revenue gain to the Treasury would be well under one per cent of GDP, the institute says.
